Mass Loading Transfer Law Changes

A new common-sense approach to loading heavy vehicles is on the cards for a National reform, allowing up to one tonne of a load to be transferred from single or tandem axle groups, to a tri-axle group, on general heavy vehicles.

The previous laws severely hindered productivity as they were impractical allowing a truck to carry the maximum load for each axle at any one time, however only if the weight was perfectly distributed is this possible.

The new rules allow for more flexibility, and while care will still need to be taken to ensure vehicles are correctly and safely loaded within the limits, the task is now much less difficult. Also, having the load move onto a tri, from a dual or single axle (without changing the total load carried) the truck actually creates less wear and tear on our nation’s roads.
